AC Milan are planning investment into several areas of the squad in the summer, and a report has suggested that a new holding midfielder is a position of interest for Geoffrey Moncada and co.

The foundations have been laid for the next manager to build on, and Milan plan to strengthen those foundations with a sufficient investment this summer. The targets will be a new striker, a central defender, and a new No.6 is also a requirement.

As Tuttosport (via MilanNews) writes, the Rossoneri have the desire to play a ‘leading role’ in the summer mercato, especially after the statement from the Curva Sud this morning, which demanded a replication of last summer’s activities.

Therefore, investment across a range of positions is needed to improve upon this season, especially with so many areas able to be bettered. The club have identified a need for a new midfielder, and the current leader is Youssouf Fofana, who plays for AS Monaco in Ligue 1.

The Frenchman wants to play in the Champions League, a request which Milan can fulfil (as can his current club). He presents a great physical profile, which the report compares to Franck Kessie-like, a profile that the Rossoneri have been missing in recent years.

Sofyan Ambrabat and Renato Veiga are also piquing the interest at Milanello, but nothing has been decided.
