Ravens’ John Harbaugh is in favor of NFL changing a rule to protect offensive players more

The NFL is looking into a rule change that would help the overall safety of the game while making things a bit tougher on defenders.

Last season, the Baltimore Ravens watched TE Mark Andrews go down with an ankle injury that kept him out for multiple games. It was a hip-drop tackle from Logan Wilson of the Cincinnati Bengals that caused it.

At league meetings today, head coach John Harbaugh said he is all for the tackling technique to be banned and that it is the right thing to do.

Andrews did not see things either way when it came to the tackle and he did not blame Wilson for the injury when it happened.

"It kind of was just an unfortunate event," Andrews said. "I'm just going to let everybody else do their thing. If they want to ban the tackle, fine. I'm going to go hard no matter what. I don't blame the guy. He was just playing hard."

Harbaugh likely was not a fan of his top offensive playmaker going down for a couple of months. While the damage already may be done when a hip-drop tackle does happen, players may be less inclined to do it with a penalty and fine over their heads.

If you’re a coach and your team was affected by the form of tackle in 2023 then you’ll likely be against it. The more interesting thing to watch play out is to see if it is enforced if it makes it that far.
