Falcons linebacker hits IR, add offensive tackle
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The Falcons made a couple of roster moves, one being a significant IR designation for Troy Andersen, who injured his shoulder in their Week 3 matchup versus the Lions. They also signed Storm Norton to the 53-man roster in a corresponding move off the Saints practice squad.

Smith said on Monday that he feared Andersen would miss the rest of the season after his MRI results, a massive blow to the Falcons defense, but an even bigger blow to Andersen’s development. The Falcons were really hoping the 2022 second-round pick could establish himself as a pillar of their defense in his second season.

In Andersen’s place, Nate Landman will assume the role as the team’s starting linebacker next to Kaden Elliss. Coming into the season, the Falcons depth at linebacker looked to be an issue, but Landman looked fantastic against the Packers when filling in for Andersen in Week 2, who was dealing with a concussion. Hopefully, Landman’s performance was no fluke, because it looks like the Falcons are going to be relying on him all season.

Storm Norton appeared in 12 games for the Chargers in 2022 and actually started 15 games for them in 2021. The Falcons need offensive line depth, particularly at tackle, but look for them to sign another linebacker for depth purposes as well in the near future.
