49ers Emerging As Trade Suitor For Raiders’ Hunter Renfrow
Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

The San Francisco 49ers suffered their first loss of the season this past Sunday, falling to the Cleveland Browns by a score of 19-17. With the trade deadline right around the corner, they may look to add talent. One name to watch could be Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Hunter Renfrow.

During the defeat, 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel suffered a shoulder injury, putting his status for San Francisco’s Week 7 matchup with the Minnesota Vikings in question.

Plus, the Niners don’t have a ton of receiving depth behind Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk, so they may be players for another wide out between now and the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline.

A former NFL executive tells the NFL Analysis Network that the 49ers may be looking to another Bay Area team for a solution.

“The Raiders have made some progress in Hunter Renfrow trade discussions. One team that has emerged as a serious suitor is the 49ers,” the former exec said.

Renfrow seems to be all but a goner in Las Vegas, as the veteran receiver has become a forgotten man in the Raiders’ offense.

Through the first six games of this season, Renfrow has logged just six catches on nine targets and was not targeted once in the club’s Week 6 win over the New England Patriots.

Las Vegas seems to be working to move the 28-year-old, and apparently, San Francisco could end up being his destination.

It makes plenty of sense for the Niners, especially given the recent injury to Samuel. Even when Samuel is healthy, the 49ers could use another receiver. Their No. 3 wide out is currently Jauan Jennings, who has logged seven grabs on the season thus far.

While Renfrow has been mostly inactive in 2023, it was just two years ago that he was one of the most prolific receivers in the NFL. In 2021, the Clemson product hauled in 103 receptions for 1,038 yards and nine touchdowns, earning himself a trip to the Pro Bowl.
