Malachi Flynn's 50-point game in a loss is the most Pistons thing ever

Good on Detroit Pistons point guard Malachi Flynn. He'll never forget the 50 points he put up against the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday.

It was just the third 50-point game ever by a player off the bench since starters and bench players were first stacked in the NBA back in 1970-71.

Flynn's 50-spot was also a Pistons franchise record for a reserve player.

That's a big deal because the Pistons were once a proud organization. But therein lies the problem for Flynn and the Pistons. His 50 points were great, even legendary. But they came in yet another loss for this miserable Detroit team.

The Pistons couldn't get a win even with a player hitting 50 off the bench. This is a team that has already made history for a losing streak (28 games) earlier this season, and now they've suffered the indignity of losing, 121-113, despite Flynn having the literal game of his life.

"Right now, it's tough, because at the end of the day, you want to win," Flynn said after the game, per ESPN. "But it does feel good to kind of take in the moment. I'm sure a couple of days from now, it will feel really good."

Again, good for Flynn. He'll remember those 50 points for the rest of his life and will always be able to talk about the night he entered what used to be a pretty exclusive club amongst NBA players.

Never mind that 50-plus performances seem to happen more and more lately, because it's still a great individual feat.

Ultimately, though, the game will go down as Detroit's 10th loss in 11 tries. This is a 13-63 squad that is going to struggle to break 15 wins. Head coach Monty Williams is basically making $1M per win right now.

The 2023-24 Detroit Pistons are an embarrassment. An abomination to the sport and everyone not named Cade Cunningham should not be in the building next season — and that includes Flynn.

Unfortunately, one 50-point performance doesn't change a thing for this sad team.
