Let's Race!
Happy 2012 with just short of 6 months until the Olympic trials it is officially crunch time! With my summer being cut short I began my training August 29th which puts me at 19 weeks into training this week.
I am still in sunny Miami Florida with Amy Deem training at the University of Miami. Fall training went well and I am looking forward to the indoor season to use as preparation for the outdoor season. We took a more traditional approach this fall pulling out some workouts from my college days. Two of the neatest additions to my training this fall have been Bikram yoga and chef Debbie.
Bikram Yoga is the newest addition to my cross training regimen and I love it!! 90 minutes in a room that averages about 105 degrees trying to get my body in positions that just aren’t natural for a sprinter. It has definitely helped my flexibility and transferred over to the track by allowing me more range of motion.
With weight loss being a priority this fall I was lucky enough to cross paths with a fellow professional athlete who knows how important what you eat affects performance with the perfect recommendation. Enter Chef Debbie!! My eating habits have been transformed by her wonderful cooking and teaching. I am so glad to have made the investment to have her spend some time jump starting my diet and equipping me with the tools to carry it on once she left. I have had to make allowing time to prepare the proper foods a priority. It has been so much fun trying challenging myself to think outside the all things cheesy greasy and sweet box. The wonderful world of food has introduced me to items not often seen but amazing in taste and nutrition. There is the sapote, egg fruit, burdock root, chia seeds and Goji berries just to name a few. Yes, I am officially a weird foodie, but it is so much fun!
Everyone has been asking when they will see me next. God give me health you can look for me indoors in Birmingham Alabama January 26th, February 4th in Boston, February 11th at Millrose games in New York and then trying to make it to Istanbul on February 25th at the USA Championships.
The Road to London is paved with hard work, focus, discipline and dedication. The people who can balance these best over the next six months are the members of the US Olympic team. I am hoping to be one of the 3 in my event with something to celebrate at the end of June. Don’t be afraid to pray for me.Talk to you guys soon!
